Absolutely love this, old meets new and it has been done so well. The subtle tones with the framing of the composition are just lush to look at. Then to just top it off the silhouette of the man adds a sense of scale to the image.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked below 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** All machinery gets old. Some of it just keeps working, a testament to its design and build. The rest doesn’t, often getting discarded in junkshops, yards and fields where the observant photographer stumbles across it. There’s a heck of a lot of character to this aged technology, with its rusty wheels and battered casings, and it reaches back into earlier times when the workings of things were maybe more on display, and a little easier to grasp.

When I first saw this image it instantly made me think of the series of works done by Hilla and Bernd Becher whose work I just love. The subtle bit of colour is not really noticed but the detail in the structure is so rich. Amazing work

Now this is an amazingly done image, the location just shouts out abandoned and forgotten and the machinery looks as old as the hills, what an amazing sunrise or set too. The light really helps to make the image as it glistens across the ice but creates some atmospheric shadows too.
