This is the only image of the top 10 winners that was shot on an iPhone. I chose it because the kitty looks so comfortable and so much itself. The use of shallow depth of field helped the kitten stand out against what could have been a busy background.

I wish I could meet this little fellow. What a friendly face and such great documentary shot of a friendly puppy. I like the use of black and white to level the playing field visually, otherwise this image could get too busy. The paw on the window! The look on his face! I love the smiling couple with their belongings in the background as well.

This is a beautiful shot of this dog. I love the selective lighting and the drama that it provides. The paw up is also wonderful and makes the dog seem to be full of something he wants to say. My only issue is the background. The mottled grey is distracting from the hero of the shot. Something simpler and cleaner will make your hero stand out more.

I love this image of the two dog friends. Each with their own personalities showing through. The howling mature dog and the closed eyed smiling puppy as seen through the window is just great. I also like the color juxtaposition of the warm wood against the blue background reflected in the glass.

I love this image. The use of the cherry petals on the black asphalt created a wonderful tableau to photograph your dog against. The slight dappled lighting is also a plus and helps the background even more. It might seem flat without the hits of sunlight here and there.

I love the happenstance perfection of this dog's friendly gaze. He is really communicating with the camera in a steady, direct way. I feel like I know him. The use of a wide angle lens helps this image bring the dog front and centre. It looks like both sides of the image have been darkened on the edges; good thinking! This helps us keep engaged with the subject by isolating it from an otherwise flat background.

This image of the greyhound feels timeless. The use of black and white really helps meld the shot together so you can fully focus on the dogs' gaze. Time seems to have stopped here. The modern house peaking from behind the levee adds the perfect touch.

The use of shallow depth of field and a uphill slope in the background really helps this quintessential dog running shot. The only think I would have would have wanted to see it a more engaging expression on the dogs face. Other than that this is a really great shot and came close to being in the top 10.

Hysterical shot. The only thing is that I'm not sure of what's going on out the back window. The cars and people in the background are distracting, as is the sticker in the window. I also wish that the back seat could have been put down or the dogs were sitting on something to raise them up a bit. I love seeing the there amigos together, I just want to see more of them and to understand the story better.

Super cute puppy picture. What I'm missing is the expression of the puppies face. I like the shoe, and the shallow depth of field. I just need more from the little guy. Maybe having seeing both boots in the shot would also lend to the authenticity of the image. The shoe is worn and there is no pretense, so mess it up a bit and ad a third thing in this shot to give it more of a story.

What this shot has going for it is the cute duckling. I'm afraid that the background doesn't work for me though. I would either choose a simple white or something with more pattern. The photoshop work is also needing some refining. The duckling looks like he's placed there than actually being in that space.

You have two great subjects. I like how you put them on the hay to elevate them from the muddy ground. I don't mind that they're dirty. They're in a muddy field after all and the dirt just ads to the love I feel for these cuties. What bothers me is the eye goo on the dog on the left side of the frame. Eye goo is something that can easily be wiped away before you start shooting to get the best shots possible.

This image is a miss for one main reason...lack of focus on your cat. You're using a long lens with a relatively medium sized aperture. It's very hard to focus with a long lens. In particular when you have a fast moving subject. My recommendation would be to continue to practice with auto focus features and see if the camera has a follow focus setting that set a certain way might make capturing this shot 100% sharp easier.

I like this shot a lot, however the reflections placed exactly where they are are a bit distracting. If you're interested in shooting with reflections be mindful of where they're falling onto your subject. I think they're interesting but also a bit distracting.

This image feels really good. I want to just jump on in and enjoy the fresh air and play with the sweet canine. What could help the photo is perhaps a slightly lower camera angle and also it would be great if the dogs' eyes were open. This requires patience and practice. I might also crop in just a little bit on the left side to remove the telephone pole. Once you see it, your eye keeps going there. I feel like your beautiful setting is competing with a dog who's eyes I want to see.
