Great contest!

Great perspective and take on documentary genre. Composition - the eye and look of the man in foreground leading to the main subjects undegrwater - is mastered beautifully. Interesting and dynamic scene, great focus and depth of field. While initially the image looks as underwater only, you soon realize that part of it is outside the water body, giving an unexpected take on the brief of this contest. Surprised me. Perfect image to write an corresponding story about the diver and the ray. I see this photo complementing an interesting documentary article. Well done overall.

The image takes with its mood and composition. The split shot reveals the scene both above and below water with its complexity and dinamic processes (waves and underwater plant movements together with humans inhabiting the island and exploring water by boat). Photo combines both the natural environment and man-made structures and activities from multiple angles, giving overall richness to the image but in a very subtle way. There is overall calmness about this landscape shot. While not overwelming with colour vibrancy or exotic wildlife, the image tells the story of tropics from multiple angles making it very interesting, fitting the brief of the contest and ecouraging the imagination by the viewer of more wonders that this tropical paradise might contain.

Very vibrant and dynamic shot, fitting the brief perfectly. Shows all elements of scuba diving from above and below water, providing viewer with details from both perspectives. Very interesting to look at. Well composed and nailed the focus on the diver.

Great capture of the otter. Engaging image. Great portreture that takes viewer with the details - the bubbles and frozen action, the palm of the otter, saying ''hi'', the fish in the mouth of the other otter. The underwater part of the image reveals something surprising and interesting that is almos hidden from above water. Embraces the spirit of this contest and deserves top 10.

This shot excells with its artistic composition and mood. While being photographed only from above water line, it reveals the scene below the water line as well, presenting a nice take on the brief (which was originally intended as the split shot of above and below water line). Original and it works very well. The simetry, composition of mountains and the sun, exposure of the lansdcape are beautifuly done. It depicts very rich landscape information with different textures and is interesting from the foreground to background. And the mood - simply invites to be there and sit on the rock in front of this lake for a while.

Unique perspective. Great composition. It is shot from what is usually a difficult angle - right from above. It reveals the details of the underwater as well, providing a interesting interpretation of the brief. It reveals above and underwater scene being taken purely from above the water. The simplicity of the composition engages the viewer. I like this story of fisherman's life.

Meet the judge

This image reveals something unexpected - floating shoe and feeding swan. A unique perspective that is revealed by the split shot above and below water. The dark scene and flash on the swan gives drama to the image. Kind of a documentary genre. The centric composition works very well. The close wide angle shot with the focus on the swan makes you imagine the life of this bird in urban environment from different perspective, especially with the human footprint all over. The story in the image brings it into top 10.
