***This contest is open to subscribers (members on the Challenger, Pro and Master subscription tiers). However if you're not a paying subscriber you can still purchase entries for £2 (GBP) per image.*** Panning is a photographic technique that combines a slow shutter speed with camera motion to create a sense of speed around a moving object. The contrast of the in-focus subject with the blurred background gives a unique aesthetic that can be hard to master. Panning shots can be horizontal, such as a moving car, or even vertical, like a child jumping up and down. Practice this technique on a slow-moving subject first, before gradually trying it out on faster ones.
