**Open to photographers with a ranking outside the top 1000. There are two other 'Panning' contests currently open to other ranks. Take a look at the leaderboard for more information on Photocrowd rankings.** Panning is the technique of using a deliberately slow shutter speed while tracking a moving subject. Ideally, the subject should appear sharp while the background has a slight blur. Panning gives great results and doesn’t take too much practice! The secret is balance – too fast and the subject won't have moved far enough to give you any blurred background; too slow and it'll be impossible to accurately track the subject the whole time, resulting in a fuzzy subject.
