I am inspired by painters and this is so well toned it would fit beautifully into any American realist portfolio. The washed out yellow beautiful compliments the grey and off white and the scene itself is well controlled. There appears to be four stories going on in the same work and I want to know more about each of them. If an image can make me wonder where did then come from, where are they going, then it is job done and well worthy of a top ten place.
When I first saw this I knew it would be the stand out entry. It hits the brief and the mystery of who is behind the magazine is given a wonderful twist with the magazine cover. The detail of the shot is great and the composition is all about the centre of the image and therefore having no distraction to the left or right really heightens the mood.

I spend a lot of time on the underground in London and one thing that stands out is the colour, this image wonderfully captures the colours of the underground while at the same time capture the grime and ugly tones that exist. The slight blur actually adds to the main subject, something which I did not think was possible. This is a great work on the daily commute at any underground station in London and a well-deserved top ten finish.
This is one of those images that it would be very hard to reproduce, what wins it a top ten finish is it feels like the subject is moving at, what seems like, light speed while sat comfortable in his seat. When I stare at this work for long enough, I swear the train starts to move and I like that the photography has managed to incorporate movement to that extent .

This contest must feature people on underground trains and stations. So that could be on the Tube in London, the Metro in Paris, the Subway in New York or any other train based travel system based underground. I am looking to see people interacting with the underground system whether they be commuters, employees or engineers maintaining the system. The underground can be challenging as it can be very dark and at other times very bright and trying to master detail and reduce noise can be tough. However the underground can also be an advantage as blur or long exposure can give your image a wonderful contrast between movement and stillness. Really looking forward to seeing your work and don't forget the underground must include people in the image.
