I'm intrigued by this image. Although it isn't a dynamic photograph in the classic sense of photojournalism - it does what good reportage image does. It tells a story. It may be one that isn't immediately obvious but the frame's composition, its subtlety of colour and intrigue in terms of the boy and the shaft of light make it quite arresting. It's evocative and I like it a great deal.

Although I'm unsure what this image is about what's clear is that I get a sense of what's trying to be conveyed - celebration. I like that the image is well framed and has an order to it. I like the arch of the smoke and lights and I like that the man in the wheelchair - fortuitously in red so the eye is drawn to him is central. Nicely done.

I like this. It's reasonably clear as to what's going on with a real sense of graphic composition and 'action'. I like the dun colours punctuated by the spots of red (and green) in the equipment and clothing of the workers. I find the ledge in the foreground a bit distracting but apart from that this is a nice, clear frame that tells the viewer what's going on.

This has information, structure and a bit of humour - all good elements for a photojournalistic image. I like the framing that is simple and graphic and the muted colours punctuated by the red of the sign. It's a good effort spoilt only by the lack of exposure control - the highlights on the face and some of the brickwork are overblown. A little more careful attention would see this right.

I'm entirely unsure what's happening in this image - although that's one of the reasons that I like it. Sometimes the best photographs ask questions as well as giving answers. I like the structure here - the reasonably clear delineation of figures and that there is a twin centre of action. My only nag is that a slightly lower viewpoint might have excluded some of the more extraneous figures in the background. But a very good effort.

This has a nice feel to it. I like that the frame is bisected in two by the edge of the boat and that we can clearly see the fishermen going about whatever they are doing. The man's washing is nicely timed and the only issue that I have is the that observer's/photographer's shadow intrudes. But this is a good effort.

A very interesting image. A photograph that tells multiple stories - the woman's grief and the gravedigger's work. I like the shape of the frame with the grave clearly visible. The moment is well captured and the frame breathes (if you'll excuse the expression) - nothing hurried or snatched. A moment well caught.

I like this more for the atmosphere created by a slow shutter speed than for the composition. It feels like there is a photograph in there somewhere but that this may not be it. A good image informs and intrigues. I can see what is happening but it doesn't separate the moment into something that is interesting. Decent attempt however.

I like that the photographer has captured what is a very dramatic scene and framed it well. What I don't like is the colourising of what I see. If an image is strong enough then no artifice is needed. Indeed photojournalism is about truth telling and this processing isn't necessary. Good effort in capturing the moment however.

I like this because the photographer has worked a bit harder than simply shooting from the expected angle. Getting lower (or higher) and looking for something interesting is the cornerstone of seeing and recording. I find the black jeans to the left with the light coloured legs next to them a bit distracting and perhaps a tighter frame might have worked better but a good effort.

An intriguing frame but one that draws the viewer in and shows a fair amount of competence in composition. I like that the bubbles are everywhere and especially that one or two have fortuitously covered the man's face. The boy's hand is perfectly placed to bisect the two figures and the whole image has a feeling of spontaneity.

A dynamic portrait which although is simple in application is quite sophisticated in its intent and completion. The figure is given space and time to 'breathe' by use of what I presume is a backdrop. It's a device but one that works well and the viewer concentrates carefully on details and a dignified sitter. I like the even lifting and the low-key feel.

A dynamic and well seen moment in what seems to be chaos. The story is only hinted at: A riot? A protest? Police violence? It isn't clear but the man's pleading reaction and the careful framing of the smoke grenade (?) and the police lines - and the road signs - create a tension that is well captured.

I like this - primarily for the angle at which its shot and for the shape of the frame. It's graphically strong and well captured and gives a real sense of movement and action. a little more space so we could see the helping man's face more clearly and the whole foot of the passenger would make this much stronger but a good effort.

There's a great simplicity to this image. Without the caption it's unclear exactly what's going on but its shape and tone are effective and quietly emotional. I like that the image has essentially three zones of which the praying man is only one and our eye can wander at east across it digesting what is going on.

This is nicely observed. The ropes are intriguing and metaphorically pull us into the plight of the man. It's a shame that the backdrop with the car and the ambulance detract from the graphic and impactful quality. Perhaps a braver crop that excludes all of these elements would have a made a more powerful image but for all that this is well seen.
