A great shot, cropping in close to this interestingly shaped succulent. It is never easy to know how to position the subject in the frame, especially when cropping in quite tightly, but here it works just right, with the positioning of the pot and the plant both working well. Conversion to black and white works well, although I imagine the shot could have worked equally well in colour, especially if the pot and background were white and the image presented fairly high key as we also have here. Great capture of the little spinney textures on the leaves. Congratulations on your third place finish.
What a lovely scene, in which I can almost bring to mind the beautifully fresh smell of the abundance of greenery, interspersed with some pops of scent and colour of the blooms. The scene is quite busy with many different subjects, but I love the effect this has given, and it really gives a good sense of plentiful growth and abundance in this natural-looking garden, which has been well tended but not become too formal in its setup. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
A lovely mood of tranquility and calm, inviting the viewer to take a seat and admire the beautiful flowers and rich green foliage of this stunning plant. Reducing the backdrop to virtual blackness removes any distracting elements and adds to the mood, but at the same time there is good lighting on the plant and the seat and its lovely cushion. A simple setup, but extremely effective. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
Such a simple composition, but one that is so effective, making the most of a scene that just asks to be photographed. The colours are an obvious draw to the eye, but they have been handled sensitively, as it would have been easy to be tempted to ramp up the saturation, which could easily have overwhelmed and looked unnatural. Viewpoint is great, getting the steps at a slight angle which allows them to retain depth, and the split of the frame for me is just right, giving appropriate weight to each element of the composition for good balance. Congratulations on your second place finish.
I love everything about this image, which all works together to create a wonderfully cosy and homely atmosphere, with this delightful potted plants taking centre stage. Lighting is lovely, looking to be natural, which enables the colours to be natural too and not tinted by artificial light. I love the rich darker tones of the furniture, floor and rug, all of which allow the fresh green of the plant to really pop. Focusing and depth of field also works well, with the plant in sharp focus and the rest of the scene gently falling into softer focus. Congratulations on your winning image.
