Portraits

There is an amazing quietness and delicate simplicity about the image. At first there is recognition of the style of traditional portrait painting, then the hint of modern day influence in the head dress begins a welcomed dance back and forth whilst studying the image. Beautifully lit. The style of the image eludes to the positions of artist and sitter and a narrative slowly begins to emerge. The photographer has indeed made a connection, capturing a poignant moment in time.

A striking portrait where colour, shape, texture and pattern interplay against the stark white background. There is a futuristic or even cinematic significance about the image and a tension that is hard to place. The portrait asks more questions than it answers which is in no way a concern, drawing you in searching the closed face with the tortoiseshell butterfly wanting to find out more.

A wonderful example of environmental portraiture. A visual story comes to life. Standing tall in the centre of the image you are immediately drawn to a strong, hardworking woman. Her gaze high out of the frame and the glow of warm yellow light cascading though the scene from above offers a sense of hope in the autumn light.

There is a great relationship between the woman and her camels that the photographer has captured well. The composition is good and the snow on the camel's fur is textured adding interest. This image just needs a bit more punch at the editing stage or could also work well in black and white.

This is such a simplistic yet quirky image. The photographer has done a great job with the composition and the square format works well. The black and white finish adds to the final minimalistic result. Great work which has a fun underlining tone.
