Using the beautiful rich colouring of the British artistic movement, create your very own pre-raphaelite portrait, landscape or social comment. The movement was vast and diverse. Their red head muse, nature, poetry and Shakespeare and a comment on social conditions. Romance is a key theme. Keep it naturalistic and real.
If you fully undertstand the Pre-Raphaelite Movement from the 19th Century, then you have some advantage in this competition. This image for me encapsulated the whole ethos. The natural beauty and melancholy of the subject. Yes, the red hair was a feature I looked for but not in a way that it was the only rather unimaginitive use of the title of the competition.
The light is perfect, the natural tones of brown and grey letting the redness of the hair standout, could have been composed by Rosetti himself.
For me it was the expression on the subjects fact that showed a true understanding the of the romantic, but tragic story of the artists and their favoured model. You are drawn in to wondering where she is, what s she thinking about, why so sad looking. There was nearly always a tragic love story to the subject of their art, to which you are left wondering about.
Well done.
The reason I thought this was worthy to commend was the religious aspect and gorgeous use of colour and perspective. the subject has that strong pre-raphaelite profile and is looking off to the side to the extent that we ask ourselves who or what s she looking at, what is her story? I adore the romance and softness in the corn.

I want to review this exquisite work to commend it for its powerful light and tone. You could be forgiven for thinking that the romantic movement that stood for naturalism and beauty in the ordinary was sometimes quite depressing and not as uplifting as its Classical rivals. However, this image shows that an ordinary scene can be uplifting and clever composition can make the mundane stunningly beautiful.
I like to starkness and realism using intense sharpness to get down to he detail. Great work.
