Railways at Night

I really like the idea behind this image. The mix of black and white, the color spotlight, and the long exposure give the image a certain dynamism, which is perfectly captured. The whole scene appears very realistic and not staged.

It wasn't easy to choose a winner, as several images actually deserve this title. However, I had to choose, and I think this one is a worthy winner. The entire atmosphere in the fog and the perfect perspective give the image the perfect mood. The fact that the image is in black and white further reinforces the gloomy mood.

This photo made it into the top 10, even though several images with a similar or identical subject were submitted. The difference with this photo, however, is the slightly better technical quality compared to the other images. The sharpness, clarity, and harmonious contrasts in this shot are very pleasing.

Capturing images in the style of bygone eras isn't always easy. You have to be careful not to include any modern objects in the frame. This was done very well here, and the image could have come from a Hitchcock film. The lighting, good contrasts, and wonderful editing create a great atmosphere. You feel like you're back in the days of steam locomotives.

I really like the atmosphere of this black-and-white shot. The fact that there's only one person on the platform and its pitch black all around immediately suggests that this will likely be one of the last trains to run that evening. The given theme was adhered to in an exemplary manner. The contrasts were also very well captured.
