This is the winning photograph because of the elegance of the composition. Although arguably the main archway is slightly cropped, the diagonal light and shadow bisecting the framing is perfect. The additional reflection and shadow in the water adds to the strength of the framing.

I love this photograph of the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto. Its almost a black and white photograph except for the gold of the temple. The snow adds to the delicacy of the image and helps to exude a wintery atmosphere.

This photograph is a wonderful depiction of figure and scale. The figure is dwarfed by the immensity of the architecture and perfectly positioned within the frame. The colour palette is also an exercise in restraint, resulting in a very beautiful photograph.

This is a perfect example of a photograph where the composition entirely fills the frame. The positioning of the man in the black coat balances well with the black chairs. The photograph also has a strong sense of texture, amplified by the photographers choice to shoot in black and white. A very sophisticated image.

I love the strong composition of this photograph. Normally as an architectural photographer I am not a fan of photographs where the photographer tilts the camera upwards, resulting in converging verticals, but this is an exception. The photograph also has a wonderful sense of massing, created by the entirety of the photograph being full of detail. A rich and complex photograph.
