Great attention to the interplay of light and shadow in this scene. I love the shadow cast by the statue on top of the cathedral. Because the roof is the only highlight in the frame, it draws our eye immediately and emphasizes the religious iconography. I also like that you've made this image in black-and-white; I'm not sure the shadows and symbolism would be as obvious in a color frame.

Great image! I really like the way you've used color and framing. My eye goes immediately to the monks in their iridescent robes, and then I realize that the men are walking through architectural ruins. The contrast is quite striking, and maybe even symbolic. Is there a discussion to be had here about Buddhism and ideas of renewal and rebirth?

Great image! I love how you've waited for the Duomo di Milano visitors to line up with the gaps in the architecture; they're perfectly placed. What really makes the image for me, though, is the umbrellas and ponchos — little pops of color against a fairly drab background on a gloomy day. Great job with the layering happening here, as well; I like being able to see the city beyond the cathedral spires.

This image is really intriguing. Instead of creating multiple exposures, it almost looks like you shot with a slow shutter speed and managed to keep the church mostly in focus while you were moving. It makes the church into an interesting symbol, in a way: a place of stability amid turbulence. The other thing I think of when I look at this image is a snow globe. It almost looks like the scene is being shaken up. Well done!

Ha, very clever image! I love when I come across details like this that complement each other in unintentional ways. It's almost like exit sign here is functioning as a caption for the stained glass imagery of Jesus' ascent. Great attention to detail and great visual sense of humor. The architecture also works well as a framing device.

This is a lovely scene. Ironically, even though we're looking at a cemetery, the image just has a certain levity and cheeriness about it. The springlike color palette helps with this, as do the abundant flowers and the fact that all of the grave markers are made of white wood, rather than drab, gray stone, which is what I'm used to seeing at cemeteries. Well done!

Each religion has developed its own architectural and decorative traditions, which are best exemplified in the places of worship and commemoration that have been constructed in its name. From cavernous cathedrals and mosques created at vast expense, to humble places of prayer that reflected the austere lives of the worshippers. Images of both interiors and exteriors are welcomed in this contest.
