Religious Ceremonies and Celebration

May 2023

Love the light pouring into this shot - great observation and good use of a slower shutter speed with the ambient light. Fantastic capture.

Lovely moment observed - beautiful composition and super sharp despite the very slow shutter speed - great use of the ambient light from the candles.

A fantastic image beautifully composed using the elevated view to great effect - the colours work so well - it's a visual feast! The slow shutter speed and use of the available light with a wide angle lens has captured the scene perfectly. A worthy winner!

Love this such a beautifully observed moment captured so well. The mans beard and face illuminated by the candles has worked really well. Shooting wide open has fixed the focus on his expression and concentration. A worthy second place.

Love the colours and use of natural light in this shot - the wide open aperture combined with a long focal lens has really worked well and helped to draw the viewers attention to the man at prayer. Great work.

Great colours and composition - love the contrast of the monk's orange robes against the dramatic skyline and Buddha statue. Great use of the wide angle lens.

Lovely composition and exposure - the wide open aperture helping the viewer to focus on the girls expression. Lovely observation.

Love the colours the bight blue sky working so well as a background to the giant Buddha statue. The people adding a sense of scale works really well here too. The wide angle and small aperture keeping the image sharp throughout. Great shot.

A real stand out shot - great composition and use of light here. A slow shutter speed with a longer lens helps to capture all the drama and focus our attention on the young women. Great colours too - excellent work.

Love this image and one rarely seen. Full of intrigue and mystery - great viewpoint capturing below and above the eye line - great use of a super wide angle lens at F6.3 keeping everything pin sharp. Nice work!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** So many of our celebrations are religious in nature, with ceremonies forming the epicentre around which everything else unfolds. Some are celebrations of the religion and its deities themselves, with parades through streets, pilgrimages made, and homage paid. Others mark stages of our lives - arriving in the world, coming of age, finding our life partner, and saying goodbye to loved ones. Images of both the religious ceremony, and the celebrations and gatherings that accompany them are welcomed in this contest.
