Rhino in the wild

Taken from what appears to be a low vantage point, this image portrays well the size and power of the beast! The dust being kicked up by the feet, and the flicking tail give a good sense of movement. Clarity and texture, especially around the face, add to the impact. Nice shot.

This is a great action shot. Portrays power, presence and what looks like a surprising burst of speed on the turn. A nice shot. I like the look of determination and sense of purpose. I certainly wouldn't want to get in his way!

This was a very difficult contest to judge, as there were so many wonderful entries. There were some great shots which I unfortunately had to discount as it was not clear they were taken in the wild. This image stood out for me because of the well captured contrast between highlights and shade, and the skin texture. Hard to believe it was taken in the midday sun. That shows the power of Lightroom. A great photo!

I love the facial expression, and the texture and colour around the mouth. A great balance of light and shade, and the framing of the foliage works well. All combine to create a sense presence. I like the somewhat disdainful look.

Great capture. The Oxpecker flapping it's wings helps gives this image added impact. The rheumy eyes and dripping nostril create a doleful expression which I like. Well captured skin texture highlights the "lived-in" appearance of the rhino. The lighting and contrasts work well.

What a great expression. With a twinkle in the eye, it almost looks like the rhino is about to crack a smile! I love the clarity, balance and light captured in this image, and the shallow depth of field serves to emphasize the character of the animal.
