Roads and Highways

December 2022

What a lovely, intriguing photograph! I enjoy the different layers of light, shadow, and foliage. I also appreciate the framing and perspective – especially that you cannot see where the road is leading. It's an unknown route bathed in warm, inviting light.

The murmuration of the birds here is so striking; it looks like a winding road in the sky and it's almost as if it's a continuation of the road below. The soft light of the image is also very nice and suggests an idyllic countryside. Well done!

This image looks like a film still; it's very Gregory Crewdson-esque. I love the mystery of it and find myself wondering what the narrative could be. Why is someone sitting on the embankment? What's in the trunk of the car? What happens next and where does this road lead? Great use of motion and light, as well; these add to the mysteriousness.

This is such a fun, relaxing image. I like how the white of the driver's hair, the flowers, and the car all match each other. Nice use of color, perspective, and leading lines to guide the viewer's eye around the countryside here, as well.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1000+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** Criss-crossing our lands, wherever humanity has gone they’ve built roads to help them get there and back, and to transport the goods that they need to get established and thrive. The architecture and design of the roads, their accompanying signs and markings, and the kinds of vehicles on them can be a dead giveaway for the country or part of the world you’re in. They carry the life of a place around on them, and scenes of daily life play out on their edges.
