Running

This is the winning image for 'running' in my opinion. About 40 people captured running in one direction, all at different heights, with a backdrop of trees. I love the juxaposition, the sharpness and black and white. A great slice of time.

A sunset moment on a beach, with rock pools and an interesting sky, what's not to like here! Great powerful colours and a runner with purpose. Answers the brief very well as there is nothing to obstruct the action. I like a glimpse of the mans reflection in the pool. 1/320th f/5.6 perfect settings for this.

Such a lovely feeling about this shot, making it my 2nd favourite. The strong clipped yew hedging leads your eyes down to the centre with access to the garden further. The children running freely and the older person too, away from camera. Such summer vibes.

Clearly rugby is the sport here, not specifically people just running, but each person is captured in some moment, either setting off running, getting up to run, turning to run, or trying to stop someone from running. Nice balance, frozen with a fast shutter and emotional.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** In the beginning, anthropologists tell us, we ran to chase animals for food. Running until our prey became too exhausted to continue. Nowadays, whilst many of us forget how to run once we’ve left the playground behind, for those known simply as ‘runners’, the practise is very much alive and well. They run around cities, up mountains, across deserts, enjoying the Runner’s High, and doing what our bodies were built to do.
