Running

February 2025

Liked this shot, as it is a different take on running, in that it is a runner on a treadmill, inside a fitness centre. But the best thing for me is the condensation on the glass. Makes it feel like a sweat box, and something created on an artists canvas or something. Good vision by the photographer.

A great looking location and fabulous sunrise to capture, with the wet sand almost looking like glass. The runner is wearing red, which helps her stand out in front of the sunrise. She is in that 2/3rd spot. I think the only think to flag is perhaps the photographer has over-processed here, the colour saturation, maybe clarity. The sun reflection on the sand is blown out, but this is almost impossible to avoid. Great work.

I liked this shot for the number of runners and the silhouetted feel about it. The human figures break up the frame in a random way, some with caps, some without, some on scooters, some just running. The angle is low down, which has helped greatly allow the nearest figures break the frame.

The simplicity of this image is everything, and the reason why it works so well for this brief. Two boys running in same direction through jets of water on a hot day. The water back lit also creates great shots, but this time some trees cast their shadows over it, giving even more interest. Like the fact that the boys are dead-centre of the image too.

Wow, the power and energy of this shot caught my attention. With all the water splashing, frozen (using a fast shutter 1/1250th and F/8 for sharpness) it allows you to still see the competitors face which really helps. Maybe some bleaching of the highlights, but love it for this brief..

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** In the beginning, anthropologists tell us, we ran to chase animals for food. Running until our prey became too exhausted to continue. Nowadays, whilst many of us forget how to run once we’ve left the playground behind, for those known simply as ‘runners’, the practise is very much alive and well. They run around cities, up mountains, across deserts, enjoying the Runner’s High, and doing what our bodies were built to do.
