Scenic Landscapes in Black and White

A relatively simple scene, brought to life with the excrllent composition of the shot, with the sweeping curve leading the eye from the foreground and back along the river to the bridge behind. I think your choice of shutter speed is spot on, as the water falling over the rocks has the movement smoothed, but not excessively so. Captured at a time of year when the trees are mostly without leaves brings a lovely lightness to the scene. Your image description details a good deal of post-processing work, but I think all your work was certainly worth the effort. Congratulations on your second place finish.

A striking image of a coastal rocky landscape. Composition is fabulous, with interest throughout from the rockpool in the foreground to a glimpse of the sea in the background. The low viewpoint and the shape and lines of the rock draw the eye into the image, then leads it past the rocks and out to the beach and sea. The black and white work is excellent, with a wide range of tones bringing the scene to life. Congratulations on your third place finish.

This image stood out to me as soon as I saw it. Some may feel the image lacks something by not having a key focal point, but it is this lack of obvious focal point that makes the photo special for me. The black lines and shapes created by the field boundaries set against the snow create miltiple points of interest, giving a wealth of details for the eye to explore and thoroughly enjoy. I am sure this scene would no doubt look beautiful in colour, but the landscape looks to be perfect for presenting as a black and white shot. Congratulations on your winning image.

A much-photographed spot, but this is a fantastic shot of the classic location. It contains all the elements for a great landscape photo, perfectly framed: mountain, lone tree, cascading water, interesting rocks and moody sky. There is so much contained within the scene to hold the eye. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
