I really like this image. I think the monochrome theme works really well for the chess pieces, and the fallen king having the movement blur is a clever addition. It is a lovely example of second curtain sync flash. The DOF is a little shallow (the white rook and black knight are out of focus) - I personally would have had all of the pieces in focus. Overall, a great image.
This is a great example of second curtain sync flash. Without the flash, it's likely that the boys' arms would have not been seen at all (like the one to the right that is all blurred). To capture it out of a studio setting is likely more difficult as the lighting is less controlled. Very well done to the photographer! Love it!

Standard flash techniques are interesting and very useful, but second curtain sync flash (SCSF) has amazing outcomes. With SCSF, the flash triggers at the end of the exposure rather than the beginning which creates a trail of where a moving subject has been. This is different to a slow shutter speed showing blurred movement. The subject is frozen with the flash at the end of the exposure so it still stays sharp. I'd like to see your photos using this technique. Examples that would work well are dancing, sports, vehicles, toys; but any random moving object can be a good subject.

While I personally don't find the overall picture particularly interesting in terms of lighting and composition, I love the movement trails of the dice. I like how the dice get more insubstantial the closer they are to the camera, and it is an interesting way to show the effects of second curtain sync flash.
