I love the composition here - the reflection revealing more of the man's face in this unsettling self portrait. Droplets of water on the glass add an additional dimension to the image, as the man looks out into the pitch black of night. Lots of lovely detail illuminated by a single light source - the image is working really well in black and white too. Great work.

A really super sharp detailed portrait - I love the starkness to this image nothing but the sitter against a super white background. Looks like it was shot with a ring flash. The intensity of the man's gaze really caught my attention. Love the black and white - great tonal range. An excellent self portrait - great work.

A really great take on the traditional self portrait. A composite shot of a man, in fact several of the same man in a variety of poses, some of them having a word with each other which I really like. I love the suburban setting too - works really well. A great idea well executed.

An interesting take on the self portrait theme with the viewer exposed to two versions of the same person. A woman screaming and blindfolded on one side and mouth taped with eyes wide open in direct contrast on the other. Opposites of the same person dressed in black and white. Nice composition shot with a direct flash against a plain background. Great idea nicely delivered.

A studio keylight cuts across the shadow partially illuminating a man's face and torso. A real quality self portrait with some very fine detail throughout the image. The gaze is direct and challenging- the black background centres all the attention on the man with nothing to distract our attention. Excellent composition and composure.

A rather forlorn looking Father Christmas in this seasonal take on a self portrait. A really beautiful image shot, I would imagine in a studio setting. The face is illuminated revealing fine detail throughout - technically very accomplished. A small tear can be seen running down the face to leave us wondering what happened to Santa Claus. A great picture very well styled and shot.

An excellent self portrait using what looks like a single light source to full effect. The man looking directly to camera his expression neutral. I love the detail throughout this image - the tonal range is excellent. A really great capture and a spot on exposure. Great work.

A really great example of a mirror image with a very pleasing graphic composition. I love the way the focus falls off as the repetition of the photographers face gradually disappears out of view. A really nicely observed image well captured.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Turning the camera on oneself can be a challenge for the photographer, mired as it is in questions of self-image, ego, and one's public persona, with technical challenges thrown in for good measure. But it's a practise that serious artists have undertaken for many centuries, and one that doubtless rewards when time, effort and thought are applied to it.

A really detailed self portrait - amazing clarity and depth to this image which cannot be ignored. The blue filter has enhanced all the skin detail - the eyes pin sharp with the 90mm lens at f11. The crop is super tight - it would have been nice to see all of the head but nevertheless the composition works really well. Great work.

A really great mirror image in a woodland setting. The photographer has created this colourful image almost like a triptych painting divided into 3 panels. revealing three slightly different viewpoints of the same person. I think this has worked really well as a self portrait - great work.
