There's some serious digital manipulation going on here, but we loved the surreal interpretation that Laura made of our brief. She has decided to show her time during the Covid19 confinement with a clever use of the clock metaphor, and her composite of several photos in Photoshop displays a seamless and creative approach to editing. Quite simply, the image is brilliantly lit, shot and executed!
There's nothing complicated about this entry, yet the quality of light and atmosphere is second to none. By positioning herself by a window during the sunset hours, the photographer has captured an ethereal glow behind her head that also obscures her facial details to create an air of mystery. The wide aperture adds to the dreamy look, and as a viewer we're left wondering what she's contemplating during quarantine.
We've got no idea what's going on in this image, but we love the mad and playful nature all the same! The photographer has been liberal with her approach, adding illustrations that strangely add to the image rather than distract from it. She's been creative with props – presumably found at home during lockdown – to create a fun portrait that's full of personality!
We reviewed this image a few times, only to noticing an intriguing and new element each time we did. Self-portraits are tricky as you have to fire the shutter yourself – either using a remote control, self-timer or mirror to compose the shot. Here, the photographer successfully used a window to capture her reflected image, with a graphic mono editing style that really adds texture to the final result. It's a very simple image that invites a repeat look – well done.

We asked you to send us your self portraits during the Corona crisis, and this is both a timely and relevant image that reminds us of the challenges we've all been facing. The lighting is atmospheric, with the brightest part on the subject's face so that our eye is drawn towards their gaze out of the window. It's only when we look closer that we see the medical gear. A simple but effective portrait - well done!
