This was so close to my number one. It is almost perfect. The elevated camera position allows us the audience to witness the entire scene, the high contrast shadows and silhouetted people zigzagging across the space is wonderful and the exposure is controlled beautifully between the highlights and harsh shadows. The only thing and it is about the details is the top of the head in the bottom right corner. A slight crop and for me it would have elevated this image even further. Try placing your thumb over the head on the screen and see what you think? Regardless a classic image. Stunning. Well done.
The silhouetted bird is so dominant within the photograph and perfectly caught and positioned within the frame of the shadows cast onto the square. It really is all about seeing a photograph then with perfect timing adding that extra dimension that elevates the image from good to excellent, and this is what the photographer has done here. Lovely details within the shadows and the highlights are well controlled. It is such a great photograph. Really well captured.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** Reliant on a strong light source - the sun shining, or an unobscured bulb or flame - shadows are generated whenever light means an obstacle. They offer an interesting challenge to shoot, requiring a shift in mindset as the photographer starts looking for something different, the inferred presence of a subject rather than necessarily the subject itself.
