The success of a shot like this all rests on the photographer getting the right viewpoint… which in this example is spot-on! The image is simple yet effective in its approach. The repetitive pattern of the straight lines of planted trees, broken up by the small hut, has great impact. This covering of snow creates the perfect set-up for a monochrome finish, which the photographer has converted well. An image like this is all about composition and excluding any distractions to let the elements in the scene work effectively together.

The often overlooked constructions, sheds and outhouses can be incredibly photogenic subjects with mystery and enigma of their own. For this month's contest sponsored by **Digital Camera magazine** we want you to venture into your back gardens and to reconsider the aesthetic value of wooden structures they're hiding.
There’s nothing more charming than the inside of a shed as this image demonstrates. The mess, dust and rustic surfaces all create a photogenic set-up. The photographer has made excellent use of the natural light streaming through the window, and the soft golden effect adds to the appealing warmth. The use of the bright yellow flowers as a main focal point is effective, and the placing of apples and other objects to the side of the flowers also work well. The photographer has edited this image to make it feel inviting.

The use of layers in this image is very effective. The photographer has carefully composed the scene to make use of the path in the foreground through to lining the top of the hut with the top of the sand. The photographer has also done a good job of keeping the horizon straight! The image is broken up by the brash text which contrasts against the rest of the scene. The lack of people and the stormy clouds overhead suggest that the space is deserted, emphasising the feeling of solitude.
