I fell in love with this image the moment I saw it. The subject was the first thing to catch my attention - her beauty, her thoughtful stare, the million tales of life silently told by the lines on her skin. The second thing to catch (and very much please!) my photographer's eye was the lighting: warm, intimate and highlighting just enough of her face to enable the viewer to almost hear her thoughts whirring in her head. And lastly, I very much enjoyed the very pleasing colour palette as well as the crisp sharpness paired with the shallow depth of field. What an amazing capture, well done!

With this shot it was love at first sight. The little girl, a beautiful subject choice, was caught in a perfect pose for a striking portrait - from the 'looking over the shoulder' look to the parted lips. The lighting is soft and pleasant and colours are very pleasing to the eye. I particularly enjoyed the splash of colour provided by the purple wall, that creates a pastel-y colour palette together with the pink of the girl's top and gives the subject an even more feminine feel. Well done!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** There is a deliberateness about side view portraits that lends them an air completely of their own in the portraiture genre. Showing someone’s facial profile, with so little view into the eye, seems to create more of a record of the person, than a glimpse into their soul. A contrast between the subject and the background can heighten the profile, being a silhouette at one extreme, or a well lit portrait against a black background at the other. Images must show the (human) subject facing at right angles to the camera, or at most just a few degrees off from that.

An extremely interesting choice of subject(s) paired with the perfect lighting. The boy's pensive expression, so in contrast with his companions bowed down to write, makes the viewer instantly want to know more about him. Is he looking at a teacher, or is his mind wandering off? What is he thinking? The warm colours and lighting are the final touches that confer a true intimate tone to this beautiful side portrait. Well done!
