Great contest!

This beautiful woodland scene is a perfect example of Natures gold and silver hues. You have managed the light so well, without over use of colour or contrasts, to craft a mystical and natural looking image which retains the detail in the shadows of the pines, as well as in the wonderful, chaotic carpet of ferns! Congratulations on your top ten image!

Firstly, thank you for bringing some wonderfully sparkling golds and silvers to this contest! The simplicity of the scene-just sky, sea and a boat, don't detract from its appeal at all, if anything it's what makes this image stand out! Another way this image attracts is in your choice of framing with the horizon being placed centrally, and the boat dead centre. Normally this would be braking the rules of composition, but not here where it works brilliantly!! Congratulations on your top ten placement and thank you for entering!

I fell win love with this image as soon as I saw it! As well as fulfilling the brief with it's warm, luminous gold and cool silver tones, this magical scene has also been skilfully photographed. During judging I saw many images which were shot directly into the sun, with few managing to control the highlights and contrasts that this particular aspect creates. Here, you have captured a glowing, natural looking sky, and in the foreground the golds of the sky are dancing in the silvery translucent ice, tying the whole scene together beautifully! Thank you for entering my contest and congratulations on your 1st place!

This striking image caught my eye straight away. I've seen many images of this broken pier, but your asymmetrical crop gives this fresh appeal, and cropping in close like this lets the viewer see it's tangled skeleton in amazing detail. You have given careful consideration to every aspect of this image with the centrally place bouy beyond the pier taking us through the scene and beyond to the distant wind turbines. The swirling seagulls add life and movement to this wonderful image with its soft gold and silver hues! Congratulations on your top ten placement!

I really enjoy this image! The generous foreground gives us so many layers of interest both tonally and texturally. The figures and frolicking dogs also add charm to this beautifully captured, low light scene. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to be walking along this beach! I would very much have liked to have placed this in my top ten, but as the brief stipulated no people, and in the interest of fairness to others, unfortunately I had to exclude it on this occasion, but I very much appreciate you entering this wonderful image in my contest.

Sitting on the inky blue sea, the vessel is, of course, the all important focal point in this image, but after that, the captivating big sky steals the show! You've captured a wonderful sense of depth, and beautiful array of gold and silver tones in these billowing clouds which are backlit by the sun-they really do look like they have a silver lining! Congratulations on your top ten placement!

In this contest I very much look forward to seeing your beautiful landscapes and seascapes which glow with both silver and gold hues. Such tonal combinations might occur when light reflects on water or foliage, when at the same time, the sun is colouring either the fields, mountains or sky of your scene. Editing can enhance this effect but it must still look natural. Please, no people, and keep other colours to a minimum so that the emphasis is on silver and gold. I welcome good compositions and straight water horizons. I hope you enjoy this challenge.
