Great contest!

We see a quite colorful slimy creature here, but it seems to fit into its environment perfectly. We find the orange-like color again in the nice background bokeh, which isolates the subject very well. The brownish-greyish tones and the green are also found in the foreground of the image. Great composition! Although I was never a fan of cutting images to unusual formats, the cut of this image seems well-thought and underlines the cubic-like appearance of the subject.

Without question my favourite photo of this contest. The slimy creature is sharp and well placed and the prominent plant next to it reminds us of a tiny umbrella. The color composition is great, dividing the subject well from its environment. The shallow depth of field adds a nice bokeh to the image and underlines the impression of a tiny world captured. Great work!

Perfectly on brief, this image shows us some slimy creatures from the ocean. The only downer I see, are those jeans legs in the background. With a bit more thought, this image has much greater potential. Nevertheless, I love the combination of creatures displayed here. A slimy looking conger eel is not something you see every day, unless you work on a fish market, the yellow-brown surface pattern is very beautiful and well displayed here.

These two colorful slimy creatures seem to be involved into some happy bathing party. The image captures a moment in movement and therfor misses a bit of sharpness, but that adds to the impression of a certain sliminess of these fellows. I have no idea if this creatures can show hapiness, nevertheless these two look so happy that I would gladly offer my sink to them to continue the party. Great snapshot!

This image with the very fitting title "Down Beneath" is a well-done macro shot of a garden snail, living in a secret world, that only those, who look closely enough, ever encounter. The light is perfect in this moment and very well balanced with the darker parts of the image. The focus on the head and antenna, with the light shining almost through, underlines the fragile world we observe here. The countless small light reflections show that the environment is almost as slimy as the creature itself. A very lovely composition!

This image totally takes us into the world of the slimy creature displayed here. We might be a slimy creature ourselves, observing a fellow while crawling around. The focus is very well placed on the contact of creature and pricky plant. The shallow depth of field adds to the impression that we have entered another world here. The color toning is warm and lovely, suiting the image very well.

A very unusual approach to the subject, but absolutely perfect on brief and without doubt very original. At first I thought this image was staged, but looking into the photographers work, I think it wasn't. The natural color composition of the image is quite harmonic. The image is very controversial, cooking living animals must seem cruel to most observers. Observing the scene one wishes for the little fighter to make it out of that hell alive. The observer gets curious about what is happening next. Did the snail make it? Was it pushed back into hell? This is not just a momentary shot, this image tells a story and raises questions, well done!

This image gives me a funny association. I am reminded of a bored old woman, spending her days with her elbows on the windowsill, watching everyone in the street passing by. The shooting angle underlines this association, because we seem to pass by below this slimy creature. The post processing of taking out some saturation, but not going completely black and white, suits the image quite well and makes it stand out. Good work!

Dreaded by many, loved by few - slimy creatures from ponds, lakes, oceans or even dry grounds. Some have become subjects of myths and legends, some made it into cookbooks as a delicacy, others inspired movie characters. Show us whatever slimy creature crossed paths with your lens.
