A unique, dynamic capture that exudes joy and love for life. There's much to see in this image, but it does not appear messy or chaotic. The composition is tidy and the depth of field well though-out, easily leading the viewer's eye where it's meant to go first. The main subject in the foreground, in fact, is not only the sharpest, but also the most interesting and dynamic of the bunch. From his body position, to his big smile and exhilarated expression, to the tattoos on his chest. There's much to look at, and the people behind him add context and interest to the shot without resulting distracting. The raindrops and the overall vibrancy of the colours are the cherries on an already successful cake. A fantastic shot - well done!

The first thing to catch the viewer's eye in this portrait is certainly the subject, with his interesting features, cool styling and cheeky expression. In my opinion, however, what makes this shot truly unique is its neutral colour scheme and its overall minimalistic look. The fact that there are few colours in the shot, and all neutrals, ensures that all tones work extremely well with one another, giving the image a 'creamy' appearance that is extremely calming and pleasing to the eye. That is also achieved thanks to a good choice of background which, I read in the description, was one of the challenges the photographer faced and, obviously, successfully overcame. Lastly, I love the well thought-out depth of field, blurring the background and the back of the subject's hat without affecting the pin-sharpness on his face. This is a beautiful and perfectly executed portrait that the photographer should be very proud of. Well done!

A tale of friendship and humble happiness. With every subject smiling so spontaneously, this photo exudes utter joy, inspiring a contagious smile in the viewer, too. The successful composition, the pleasantly diffused light and the vibrancy of the colours (including the bright green background), all add visual impact to the shot. I also thoroughly enjoyed reading the provided image description, as it allowed me to put the subjects and their smiles into context, gifting me with a glimpse into their lives. This is a fantastic, high-quality portrait that perfectly fits the theme and deserves recognition. Well done!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** What do we so often say when we point a camera at people? “Smile! Say cheese!” But not always with the most natural-looking results! Capturing those genuine, disarmed and unaware smiles is a skill learned. It comes from rapport, from creating the right atmosphere, saying the right thing, or from blending in, being quick, unnoticed. The results are worth it - smiles are infectious and can make a picture.
