If Im gonna be super critical, I might say I would have worked the windows more.... they seem a little hot.... but that is minor and I really should just shut up. What you did is fine...

And straight lines (yes, I notice that!). Awesome you took the time to straighten everything- makes this a much better image!

This is an extraordinary image. So unlike so many of the other images I saw in this contest. But you also got the light right, not just the landscape. The developing is great- the image is super sharp and jumps off the screen.

OK, so there were only 25 different versions of this image uploaded.... this is the one I liked the best. So many people lost track of the focus on the beach.... this image is about the ice. Well composed, with great light.

A magical, mystical forest in winter. There is so much drama and theatrics here. Mysterious! I can just make up 100 stories when looking at this, and that is a great asset for a photograph.

I love the shade of blue, too- steely, just perfect!

Near perfect image. Exposure is slightly hot, but not too distracting. Color is IMMENSE, and what I love about this.

The red jacket is ideal, too- draws your eye right there. But that is also the only real problem I see. Because the red draws your eye and is the obvious focal point, it needs to be clear. He (or she, no way to know!) is slightly too right and slightly cut off. He or she needs to be slightly camera left so the red is centered in that space.

I know, VERY picky.... but when you get into the fine parts of judging the final images, it is really minor things like that which drop your image down.... And this was something you should have seen on site. Two inches of movement on the camera would be all that was needed!

This just made me laugh. When a picture creates an emotion in a viewer, it is a winner! You captured something very special and very illusive here. Tight focus is also important, and it looks like you nailed it here.

Really interesting image! I like that you placed bright colors in a "black & white" landscape. The contrast of color and of light and dark is great!

VERY COOL! This is such a unique image, it immediately grabbed me and made me stop and look at it. I stared for a few minutes. I could not dismiss it.

Great shot. I have a lot of respect for wildlife photographers. I cant do it- dont have the patience! To do it in a snow storm, well, hats off to you!

Such a marvelously mysterious image! The light is just incredible- it almost looks fake.

I love the feel of this. There are some problems with the image, minor things I would have changed or done different, but the feel of this is just so strong and so wild that I had to give it recognition.

Really nice image. I really like that you shot multiple exposures, and blended them to get a better overall exposure. I like that you are thinking, and working hard on making good images.

I hope you can also do with some criticism. I do not mean this to be mean, I mean to help you get to the next level.

First, you need to work harder at your masking. The masks stand out to me, and are not all that even (specifically surrounding the lighthouse to the right). You have to do it by eye, and if you can see it, than so can I!

Also, I think you moved your colors too much. They do not look natural together, I THINK the bottom should have more gold reflections in it.... not sure though. In any case, to my eye, it looks pasted together. Be more gentle!

On a personal level, I probably would have removed all the people. Not sure what they add.... but that is just me..

I am also not 100% on the composition.... I think you could have found a better angle. What do YOU think?

Like I said, I like that you are trying! I am sure you worked hard on this, and you are getting there. But do more, and get better at it!

I love it when Ice takes on a crazy look like this. While I think you could have handled the highlights to the left a bit better.... this image is still very beautiful and really pulls me in.

I hope you do not mind me giving you some criticism. This is something I think EVERY photographer should be aware of. If you are going to shoot water, LEVEL your image! If not when you shoot, then in lightroom or photoshop when you edit.

Water is, well, level. If your image does not show that, no one can take it seriously. If you are going to enter an image in a contest, you should do a bare minimum of editing, and first on that list should be leveling the image....

Thank you for entering the contest. I like this image a lot- the feel is very nice. It does not rise to the best of the bunch though. So what can we do to make this better? IMO, there are two areas of interest- the mountains (BG) and the snow on the bank and the black water (foreground). I think there is a bit too much dead area in the middle of the image.

I think had you gotten lower and closer, the foreground would be a lot more prominent.... and the BG would still be there.... and you could have removed some of the less interesting middle areas.

I like the image a lot, and I think you probably worked hard on this- I don't mean to take away from that.

Really nice image. Very hard to do, too- getting those whites that are so close to read different.... and not have a color cast either. I love that you didnt go total black on the trees- they look like pencil drawings. Very good job on a VERY tough subject!

Really cool image! Converging lines are always really cool, drawing your eye into the image. Compression on the long lens makes this work very good, too. Exposure is nice, white but not blown out. I think you brought a lot of elements together well in this image.
