From skiing and snowboarding, to backcountry exploration to ice skating. Winter offers so much for the adrenaline and thrill seekers. We belong to the school of thought that winter is not the time to cozy up inside and hibernate. It’s the time to get out and explore what the frozen world has to offer. Unpredictable weather, tough conditions and difficult lighting is always a competent of winter sports photography but with a little patience and perseverance, you might just walk away with some memorable images.
Most people think of skiing and snowboard when they think of winter photography but we welcome any take on winter sports so feel free to get creative and share your best shots with us. We’ll accept photos you’re still editing from last season or even better yet, photos of your currently enjoying a Southern Hemisphere winter!
All submissions must include metadata, a description of the image and be free from watermarks in order to be eligible for expert judging.
The expert-judged winner will receive a pair of our deep winter Skadi Zipper mitts. The community judged winner will receive a pair of Markhof Pro 2.0 photography gloves.

Skadi Zipper mitt
This versatile glove gives you all the warmth benefits of mittens along with full flexibly to operate your dials, whether you need one finger or all four. This glove is adaptable for all conditions as it can used on its own or in conjunction with the included merino liner. Suited for mid to deep winter, this glove offers merino wool and PrimaLoft insulation, zipper and FlipTech finger caps with magnets. Goat leather, laminated twill and a 2 ply DWR suede that resists water and gives excellent weather protection. This glove is rated for deep winter.
Markhof Pro 2.0
The Markhof Pro 2.0 is guaranteed to once again be a crowd favourite for winter photography gloves. This glove boasts a pre-curved glove design and 100% merino wool liner as well as Thinsulate insulation and weatherproofed fabrics. The Markhof Pro 2.0 has our signature flip-tech finger caps with magnets allowing for full camera access and dexterity. The non-slip grip, is a super grippy palm print that provides the perfect camera grab. This glove is rated for mid-winter.
How it works
Every photo submitted will be available for the crowd to rate once the submissions period has ended. You can see all the images uploaded to a contest, but will need to rate them to see how they’re ranked once the rating period begins.
Some contests on Photocrowd also have a judge. After the submission period closes the judge chooses their favourite images and writes some image reviews. The crowd and judge results will be announced on the same day.
