Out of all the photos entered in this competition, this is the one I kept coming back to look at time and time again. I love the simplicity of it, the colours work really nicely and the shallow depth of field sets the fox off against the background beautifully. Really well done, this is a lovely image.

Leopards are easily the most beautiful of the big cats, it took until my last day in Kenya on an 8 day safari to finally clap eyes on one and it was so worth the wait. I love the composition here, I'm glad you resisted the temptation to crop right in, he looks so much better for having room around him. The colours are really rich here, and it's exposed perfectly. Grand job :)

We’re focusing on individual animals in this wildlife contest. Whether that’s picking one character out of a crowd, or an animal that naturally tends to make an appearance on their own. And we might ask what defines a wildlife portrait from any other wildlife image? Portraits usually show the subject quite prominently in the frame, and being the undoubted focus of the image, as distinct from shots of an animal at distance within their habitat. These can be some of the most challenging images to shoot, often requiring patience, knowledge of the animal’s behaviour, and in some cases a long, fast lens.

What a beautiful photo. The background looks fantastic and seeing a Lynx in its natural (OK I know technically it's not) habitat rather than a smack in the face frame filling close-up just looks great. I have a friend who ran some trips here and he says he didn't get anything as nice as this. Really well done it's a gorgeous photo.

This is a cracking shot, it's composed well and the exposure is bang on, I like that you kept the shadow detail, I think it definitely works better than if you'd left it silhouetted. Great colours too, you struck lucky getting this :)

I love this, arctic foxes are such photogenic animals and always make for a great picture. I love the detail on the face, seeing all the snow in its fur really shows what they must put up with. It's well exposed, composed with thought and it's nice and sharp, I can't think of anything I don't like about this.

This is just magical, what a gorgeous shot. The backlighting and rich colours look fantastic and it's nice to see something different. It's composed well and its lovely and sharp where it needs to be. I really really love this shot.

I absolutely love this, it's composed beautifully and you've caught it at exactly the right moment to show off the lovely colours. I like the bright background too, it;s not distracting and helps to make the bird really stand out.

This is a beautiful shot, it's tack sharp and exposed really well to protect the highlights. If I was to be super picky it's maybe a little tight in the frame but the fact that it's looking back across the frame excuses it. I love foxes and this is a wonderful photograph :)

A wonderfully simple image that has a real impact. The black and white conversion is bold but works really well, I'm forced to concentrate on the textures and scales rather than the colours. The focus is bang on and it's composed well, what's not to like?

What a stunner, Polar bears are on my bucket list, and seeing this just makes me want to photograph them more! I love the shallow depth of field, the backlighting looks awesome too. I'd maybe have been tempted to clone out the couple of light spots that are catching the light on the bears shoulder but that's just me being very picky.

This is a lovely shot, I'm struggling with it though as the reflection looks like a softbox which would suggest this was shot in a studio and therefore not really "wildlife" but it's still a tremendous photo none the less. I love the colours, it's mega sharp too se we can see all the wonderful details!

This is a quality shot, framed well to include the environment but close enough to show off the Eagle's features. I love the snow, and using a wide aperture has really made it stand out. Nice colours too, the cool colour balance works brilliantly.

I've been fortunate enough to see wild Lions in Kenya and a yawning male is definitely a sight to behold. They look mean as ever even when they are half asleep. You've captured him beautifully here, he really looks like he wants to eat you! Nicely processed too, subtle colours and a lovely composition.
