This was a stand out entry for me in this contest; the panning technique is expertly executed here, conveying a sense of speed and dynamism. The inclusion of dramatic lighting adds intensity to the scene, with the cyclist perfectly positioned in the frame to create a fine art style image. Congratulations on a fantastic shot!
This is certainly a valiant first effort into the realm of sports photography! You made the tough lighting conditions work in your favour by capturing the scene in a minimalist fashion. The lack of distraction focuses the viewer's attention onto the athlete's facial expression, which conveys focus and precision, and showcases the intensity and grace of the sport

If you want to know more about the importance of shutter speed, shooting sports imagery will help enormously. Most sports happen at speed (no, chess is a pastime) so you’re either trying to freeze that action, or show some of the movement with a little motion blur. Good sports photography captures the drama, the energy, the conviction, the moments that made the game and help us to feel like we were there enjoying it first-hand. Any sports are allowed, and any sports-related subjects.
This image caught my eye straight away. The movement you are able to portray gives a fantastic effect, without which the image could be quite ordinary. You have shown a good technical understanding of flash photography to create a powerful and artistic piece of work. Congratulations on a fantastic image!

The repetition in this image stood out to me as soon as I saw it. The angle the image is shot from suits the composition well. You have effectively conveyed the sense of speed in the image by capturing the swimmer mid-air, which is often a crucial element to sports photography. Well done on a great image!

The colours and contrast of this image made it stick out to me straight away. Although the photograph is not as sharp as it could have been, the movement you have captured through the suspended water droplets and curtain of water in front of the swimmers head provide a great sense of action. Congratulations on a great image!
An original and artistic take on skateboard photography is this image! You have portrayed movement in the image exceptionally well via the suspended board and the position of the skater's body in the shadow. To me it is important that you achieved separation between the shadow and the board too. Congratulations on a great image!
Panning is often a "go-to" setting for sports photography as it effectively conveys the speed of the sport. You have managed a great technical shot here with such a slow shutter speed. It is a pity the players mallet is in front of his face, otherwise this would have been a perfect composition for this image.
This image could almost be timeless owing to the use of black and white. You have captured a range of emotion on the faces of the fans, yet their focus on the game is universal. There is an element of anticipation as the fans wait to see if the ball goes in or not which, to me, really tells a story in the image.
