Stand Up Comedy

The close crop and use of black and white work really well in this image, making the comedian stand out, and I love the way that the gesture takes the shot out of the ordinary, and makes us wonder what's happening in the set! Great image.

I love this image and find it very interesting to look at. The close crop, the shadow on the comedian's face, and the wonderful hints of colour from the stage lights all give a really classic stand up comedy image. The sharpness of the image in clearly dark conditions suggest that the photographer thought carefully about how to make this shot work. I also love the way that the beard makes us wonder just for a second where the microphone is! Brilliant.

I find the use of space really effective in this image, the expanse of black really accentuating the hunched posture of the comedian, with the decision to keep the single light in shot really showing the sparse but effective set up.
