Statues and Monuments

July 2022

This was one of the first images I saw judging this and it went straight in my top 10 and has stayed there until the end.

The colours and depth of field work perfectly and the amount of detail you have drawn out from the texture of the metal is amazing!

I'm not usually a fan of shooting things mega wide but for this subject it works perfectly!

The black and white treatment and use of negative space helps bring in that moody sky to create a nice atmosphere and a great shot!

Great example of Henri Cartier Bresson's decisive moment!

The colour treatment on this is perfect and we instantly know it's Scotland.

Tied in to the theme well by using the monument.

A great example of the rule of thirds.

Well done!

There were a lot of images of the Angel of the North entered into this contest but you definitely caught my eye with this one!

I would have liked a slightly slower shutter speed just to eliminate the people altogether or maybe photoshop them out but it's a great image.

Such a beautiful image!

The colours instantly draw me in and I would say you have got the exposure pretty bang on to make a nice still foreground and catch a bit of movement in the clouds.

The simplicity of this really draws me in.

I like the tones you have used and the colours work perfectly for the stone.

The image reads really well with the highlights on the right leading across to the shadow on the left.

Nice shot!

I love this shot and would really like to see how you made it as it makes me ask a a lot of questions!

The water is really well handled with a long exposure and the black and white treatment suits it perfectly.

Beautiful image with a very water coloured feel to it.

The tones you have used here work really well and lifting the front of the building brings the viewers eye in really nicely.

I think you got the choice of putting different water in right as it balances the sky really well.

Beautiful shot, the colours in this work really well and the shutter drag leaves a perfect stillness to the foreground.

Perfect vignette drawing the viewers eye down to the subject.

This image was originally higher up in my top 10 but the flare in the centre of the image is a little too distracting for me.

Beautiful light producing some fantastic colours in this image!

I would have liked to have you a step to the right so the room is square as it is slightly off centre how it is now but still a brilliant shot.

This was one of the last images I chose for my top 10 but so glad it's in here.

That splash of colour coming from the stained glass window is just perfect and it has been framed and exposed really well!

This photograph stands out really well as a thumbnail, the exposure and colours in the shot are great and you picked the perfect time to take the image!

The story works well with the image too and fits in well with the red of the image for the time of day you have chosen.

The colours on this are beautiful, it feels almost CGI which I don't really like but the photo composite feel of this really works to make it feel almost alien.

The exposure is spot on and the use of the highlights draws the eye across the image really well.

Great shot!

Statues - carved or cast figures of people or animals, especially ones that are life-size or larger - and monuments - statues, buildings, or other structures erected to commemorate a notable person or event - adorn our town and city centres, our village squares, our mueums, and very occasionally our beaches (see above!) They often immortalise the past, and the characters and actions that formed it, and there is ever increasing scrutiny on some of the subjects of these statues and monuments, with their lives being reassessed in the light of modern day perspectives and morality.
