Everything going on here is spot on. The colours, textures, framing, light, angles and objects themselves are strong on their own, but combined at this particular time make for a beautiful photograph. I'd argue on most any given day it simply wouldn't work, but the sunshine at this moment has brought some magic to the frame and brought everything to life. dreamy nebular like colours drift along the floor from the stained glass and the warmth stretches along the walls. Incidentally, I think this is the first time I've awarded a photograph from a phone first place.

The sunshine brief gave a chance for a lot of photographers from different practices and genres to submit frames from a context outside their norm. As a documentary photographer it gave me a chance to view more images that were taken with art for art's sake in mind. This photo was the second image that caught my eye that happened to be taken on a phone, which goes to show that with art it's never much about the tools rather than what the artist is trying to convey.

I love a moment that is hard to pin down in time. Technically, it is a well executed photograph. Slightly lower speed - and tracked - so we get that sense of movement in the blur while the subject is sharp. Her hair moves around her face delightfully. Aesthetically it's a painting of a frame. One to sit with and enjoy. Full of life and happiness, and that sunshine belongs on a face of pure joy.

Meet the expert judge

A Hockney of a photograph. When it comes to judging I tend to always find one image I would like on my wall, and this would make for an exquisitely large print. Beautifully warm with a really gorgeous colour pallet. The sunshine baking on to that end wall glows richly. Golden hour caught in it's glory I would say. Really enjoyed this image.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** It’s a cheery weather forecaster that announces a sunny day to come, and with good reason. It brings out the best in us, and in the world around us. For a photographer it puts a spring in our step, and transforms our photography. Bright, saturated hues, sharp shadows, rich blue skies and frames bursting with energy. This is a broad brief that could encompass many themes, but with an emphasis on the particular mood and imagery that bright sunshine helps create.
