Sweets, Chocolates and Candies

This is a great abstract image of lots of identical, but different coloured sweets. It reminds me of one of the images found on the box of a complex jigsaw puzzle! There is no obvious focal point, but that doesn't matter with this image, as it is all about the multitude of little coloured candy balls and the abstract effect. Great capture of the colours, white balance looks spot-on. Well done on your top ten finish.

Many entries in this contest were elaborately stages, often alongside some rather incongruous items. However, what I like here is the simplicity and lack of showiness - what we see is what we get - a pile of well photographed sugar dusted coloured boiled sweets. The narrow aperture has retained sharp focus throughout, and the sugar dusting adds naturalness to the shot. Nice colour contrasts across the image too. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

I am not a great fan of food items reflected on a shiny black surface, but the subject choice here lends itself to that type of shot, and I really like the result. You look to have handled the marzipan fruits without leaving any distracting fingerprints on their surface, and each one has been carefully placed in the composition which must have taken care and patience. Lovely colours, bold without being over-saturated, that stand out beautifully against the black background. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

As with any food photography which contains eggs, it almost always adds to the shot to include an "ooze" of the yolk. Whilst obviously no actual yolk in this little creme egg, it is great to see the same ooze, which adds a little dynamic to a static shot. Composition and set-up is good, well balanced lighting which has avoided harsh highlights on the shiny foil, but illuminates the subject beautifully. Well done on your top ten placing.

This is a great shot of some simple boiled sweets. Your choice of colours has worked really well, with the contrasting blues and oranges giving impact to the shot. Lighting is lovely, and there is a delicate softness to the overall feel of the shot, which for me gives it great appeal. The fairly shallow depth of field works well, as the sweets gently fall away from sharp focus. Nothing flashy or complicated, just a wonderfully natural and well executed image. Congratulations on your third place finish.

A lovely colourful shot of these long jelly sweets. I like the detail we can in the sugar coating, and everything is sharp and well focused. Being picky, the darker shadowy area along the top right section is a little distracting, and maybe could have been brightened in processing, but it does not spoil the overall shot.
