This image is a fine example of why architecture is so important for mankind. Wow, what an image. It has everything, and more.It almost feels like it is computer generated, but it isn't. I want to go, and want to shoot it myself, I want I want, I want!!! An amazing shot!!

I loved this shot, of another Indian temple. This time light up, the reflections in the water in the foreground is magical. I loved the palm trees either side too. Perfectly taken, dead centre, and a lovely evening light, can't go wrong.

Bridges are always great to shoot from the side if they are as interestingly as simple as this one. The photographer has used the light perfectly, and with the sky being milky behind, helps make the bridge stand out proud even more. A really great shot.

Again, the strength of a black and white image here works so well. It wouldn't be right if I hadn't chosen a Taj Mahal shot, and I think this is one of the best ones. Focusing on the building, the image is perfectly balanced. Just one criticism would be it is not exactly in the dead centre.

This is a powerful structure, and the black and white conversation works as it brings out the strength of the building. Side lighting of the sun, is powerful and again the figure on the person gives it great scale. One of the best for me.

The amazing light of the evening sky makes this building look like it is on fire almost. Wonderful wide angle shot again, and again works really nicely. The golden nature of the shot brings it alive, and shot at f/14 everything is in focus.

Another great ceiling detail, but this time the image has so much crazy detail it draws your eye in to want to zoom in and find out more. It's always good to shoot ceilings using a tripod, and a high aperture if possible to get sharpness into the corners of the image.

This image struck me as answering the brief really well. The symmetry is perfect, and the way the image has been taken gives it an amazing graphic look. It reflects the skills of the architect, and great photography of buildings should always try to do that in my opinion.

Great shot of a contemporary monument with interesting sky behind. The shape works very well. I think the F/16, ISO 500 and 1/250th shutter setting were just right for this shot, and the light feels like it's coming down very subtly from just above the centre of the monument like a heavenly element.

Powerful black and white shot of an iconic building, with the contrasting tones working really well to add drama and form. I'm not so certain about the two figures, but all the same, I liked it. Nice kit used and love the fact that the dead centre of the building is dead centre of the frame.

The wispy clouds touching the building made this shot for me. The image has a great dreamy feel about it. F/11 is a great setting to use for such images, and I liked the way the person gives it scale.

There were so many ceiling details, taken straight upwards, which I love to shoot myself too. So many to go through and try to choose the best was difficult. I feel this image was different enough to highlight. The textures are fab, and it is nice and sharp even though the image was taken without a tripod and at 1/25th. I would suggest putting up the ISO next time, so that the shutter speed could be higher to avoid any camera shake.

The main part of this image almost looks like an alien space craft, with the shape of it, the angle the image has been taken at, and the lights reflecting on the shining surface. It stood out as an image. A 14mm lens is super wide, but it works very well for this subject.

I really liked the reflections in this picture, the light on the structure is perfect. Taken by an iPhone is impressive. The little bits of whatever it is in the water helps separate the reflection with the non-reflection. Great image.

Architecture by its nature has many examples of symmetry on display, and when photographing architecture a strong approach can be to seek out that symmetry and to represent it. This can be either in a straight way that produces a near-symmetrical image itself, or in less obvious ways that play with the symmetrical subject. Either approach is welcomed in this contest, but underlying each image must be architecture or architectural detail that displays symmetry itself.

I loved this abstract image. Clearly a detail of the wider building, it works really well. Almost looking like a ship's sail. Great that the photographer shot the image at ISO 100, for the best quality. It's bright, clear and striking. Well done.

Meet the expert judge

This image was intriguing, with a rainbow exactly the same shape as the domed shaped building beneath. And with it reflecting in the water too. It feels too perfect to be real. The overall result looks like an eye. lovely.
