This image has everything, perfect timing to frame the silhouetted person walking out of shot, the trio of tables with beautiful lighting and wonderful symmetry. The black and white really adds to the drama and film noir quality of this photograph. It feels like we the audience are part of the scene watching as something is about to unfold. All parts of this image work so well. Could it be any better?. I'm not sure. It's wonderful.
A great example of modern life but from a unique perspective. I'm sure we can all recognize the scene, a group of friends as complete strangers all on phones and not connecting to each other or maybe they are but through technology? This image stands out because of the ability to see something different within the elevated position and framing and from this birds eye view we can see everything from the wonderful arrangements of the food and the muted colors on the table against the bursts of color within the clothes they wear. An image of contrasts. I feel like an uninvited detective observing from a distance. Great capture.
Out of nearly 3000 entries this was the most unique image and .very clever way of making a photograph. The photographer has had to really consider this one, this is not a photograph that presents itself. You have to really think how this could work and have the imagination and skill to pull it off.The framing of the face works well against the individual elements around him. The flatness of surface created from the camera angle really adds to this looking like a jigsaw puzzle. Its a fun and imaginative photograph of a person deep in concentration as they paint.
This is so well seen and then the exposure is sublime. It would have been so easy to get no shadow detail at all but because of the skill of the photographer we have detail in the shadows and within the table and chairs. The graphic shapes add to what is a fantastic formal arrangement of shapes. The lines on the pavement just add to the composition. The whole image has a wonderful flow to it and we forget that it is only a table and two chairs because with the unique vision of the photographer it has become so much more. A classic example of abstract photography similar to the great Andre Kertesz. Well done.
This needed that crop to make this become a great photograph and the photographer understood this. It gives great drama to the photograph and concentrates attention first to the table then we slowly go around each individual and try to think about how they fit into the image. Is it a family or a group of friends? I don't think it matters. It's the colors that draw me in. The are warm and the brown legs work so well against the darker slabs of pavement and the blur table. It's in the details that this photograph comes alive. Well seen and judged.
This is a stunning arrangement of food and placements. The quality of light really adds to the photograph. It is like a still life but from an unexpected angle. We never really see food from above and it works all the better for it. I love the attention to detail in the place settings then the contrast between the holds in the table cloth. The soft light adds to us being able to see every detail and it reminds me of a still life painting. Subtle and well composed.
Sometimes you see a picture and wish you were there. This is one of those. The quality just sings from this beautifully judged and composed Landscape. The lines are straight, the table sits perfectly at the top of the line that takes our eye then above to the stunning mountain range. The darkness to light setting within the foreground to background works very well and the black and white adds extra shape and the tonal range is superb. A stunning well composed landscape.
This is a really interesting take on the brief. Yes we have a table and yes people are gathered around but its the composition and quality of light both on the playing table and the mans face leaning over that add the drama. We are drawn to the entire scene, the red of the pool ball then the stripped back light overhead. This is a dramatic documentary photograph. It asks many questions. The exposure is superb and this would fit very well into a photo essay. Great Image.
Beautifully judged and made. The photographer has had to really think about this image before deciding on the framing and overall composition. Going in close really adds to this photograph, we see the lines in the white sheets and this is complemented by the abstract nature of the ivory chairs. Technically it is excellent with all the whites keeping their details so we see every crease and line. Not an easy thing to do. Simple, elegant, beautiful. A classic.

The humble table, scene of family dinners, board meetings, the placing of a coffee cup, and the resting of a magazine. From the functional to the highly designed, they reside in all our homes, workplaces and eateries. We may not even think about them much when we’re taking our photos, but they are there, requiring some thought as to their placement, what is on them, and around them. Images submitted must show at least a recognisable portion of a table, if not the whole thing.
This could be a painting by the great Rene Magritte. Ideas around inside and out play so well against the table almost floating within the sky. The soft muted colors work well as does the elevated position of the table and chairs so that it does at first glance seem to be in the air. The photographer has had to make this photograph and have the ability to then make it. The lines could be a little straighter but given the camera angle that would be impossible without a shift lens. Such a wonderful scene.
The composition is very well though out and what makes this image for me is the quality of light that works so well against the darker table in the bottom right hand corner and from there our eye is taken across the scene to these wonderful softer lines and tables in a what reminds me of a dance. This is such a subtle photograph that has to be seen then made. Well done.
Such a great abstract photograph. All the elements work together in this image. The photographer has worked hard to separate the red table against the two blues between the diagonals that run across the frame. It seems such a flat image but we know that the table is the closest element to us the viewer. Its a photograph that needs careful examination and it's all the better for that. Clever and well composed.
This was so close to my top 10. The use of the frame and the way the photographer has divided the picture between the colored tables and chairs in the bottom third of the left hand corner and the placement of the two shadow figures leaving the top right side really break the image up and take us the viewer around the entire photograph. The pop of color of the tables against a mainly monochromatic scene really adds to the overall impact of the image. Very well constructed and framed.
This photograph is all about light and how it can change the dynamic of a scene. The photographer has been very clever to uncover this image. then its also about the framing and mirroring of the contents. The subtle tones move between wonderfully controlled shadow detail to superb detail in the whites of the chairs. This is a classic example of a photographer in full control and having the ability to make such a wonderful image. Very clever.
