Tartan

The composition of this photo of a piping band at rest is excellent, meaning that although the muscians all wear the same tartan outfit, the way the patterns and shapes are caught in each of them makes the image interesting The white boot covers give a nice contrast to the colourful tartan fest.

A great portrait of a lady at the races who went for the tartan look. The fact that her hat has a completely different tartan design and colour than her coat gives her something endearing. Who knew that tartan fascinators don't come in every colour! A really good capture.

When you think wedding in Scotland, you think tartan. This is a very intimate shot of the special couple in which the tartan kilt has been nicely contrasted against the white wedding dress. The compostion is perhaps unusual for a wedding photo but actually brings out very well the details of the outfits for the special day.

There is no competition, surely anyone with the slightest bit of flair would go for the tartan one? A great street shot of everyday tartan which brings out the colours of the pattern really well in contrast with the plain scarfs.

This is very much a casual photo of a scene you could encounter in Edinburgh on any rainy day. Yet the image caught my eye when looking for a banner for the competition since the composition is marvellous. The reflection of the socks and flashes in the puddle adds to the nice contrast of green and blue against the sandstone.

This is an intrigiung picture with great composition and colour. Despite the brightness of the outfit our view is still drawn to his face. Well done.

Not all tartan is about highland costumes and tartan woolen blankets are another regular feature of life in Scotland. This photo just captures the warmth and cosiness of being surrounded by such a blanket so well. The nice subdued colours together with the slight out of focus portrait add to this feeling.

The simplicity of the composition of this great picture really brings out the tartan pattern of the cap. This still life has been very well executed and almost has the feel of a painting rather than a photograph. Very well done.

A simple picture but very effective in capturing one of the attractive features of the kilt, the sway. This movement is caught very well and the fact that the rest of the composition has been kept very simple, means our attention is immediately drawn to it.
