Textures

I chose this as the top image for a number of reasons. The low viewpoint makes me feel as if I am a small creature looking up at the textures of the mushroom. The image wouldn't have been so dramatic if it wasn't for the viewpoint. The isolation of the tree-like mushroom creates a sense of mystery and intrigue. Furthermore, the bokeh in the background gives the effect of being lost in a magical forest.

The strong diagonal line, and all the other lines gently curving out from it, make it a powerful, yet simple image. You get the sense you can reach out and 'feel' this plant. The shades from yellow to green, and deeper shades of green enhance the depth and texture. My eye is drawn to the area which has the sharpest focus.

This could almost be a vast alien landscape, and you are looking down on it in a bird's-eye view. The light hitting the subject makes the curved ridges look deep, and the darkness appears foreboding. Alternatively, you can look at this picture and see a strange, prehistoric-looking creature crouching in the lighter area. That is what makes this abstract image fun to look at: you can make up your own story.
