Meet the expert judge
We saw quite a few images of the River Tyne in this contest but this one really stands out. Your use of the arc to frame the Sage works very well, really helping to centre your eye in the busy scene. You also timed your shot well so that there's still some colour in the sky and the river is smooth ensuring there are nice reflections.
I can picture this scene perfectly. The image works very well in black and white, it gives a timeless quality and really brings the metal on the steps to life. I like that you have included the station name, it helps viewers make sense of the image. Great choice of shutter speed, you've captured just the right amount of blur. Angela
This image is full of mood and captures the moment perfectly. Its simple, tried and tested composition works, with the action of looking at the phone placing this shot in the present rather than in the past. But is the subject an actor, autograph hunter, friend or simply someone who's stopped to read a post?
