The cinematic feel of this image makes it really strong. The long exposure creates some nice, moody contrast, and the lone light in a window punctuated the silhouette of a figure looking out gives the whole scene an impressive sense of scale.

This is a fabulous image with lots of warm colour and sharp detail. It really feels like we have a window into the lives of these people. Including the banner at the top of the shot helps give context as well a framing.

This image captures an unknown time of night with the lights illuminating the offices in the background and the driver just reaching for the door. Is it the end of the night and one of the or a quiet moment just before the winter rush hour?

We saw many city skylines and traffic trails this round, and many of Dubai, but this image really stands out. From the perspective, you feel like Superman weaving through the city. The exposure is perfect, capturing detail in the sky and buildings and light trails down below.

Like a scene out of Batman, this image has a strong cinematic feel and the looking upwards perspective creates an impressive sense of depth. The lights in the windows also help draw your eye through the frame up to the top of the building.

I was initially drawn to this image by the colours and reflections, but I love all the details and the panoramic aspect ratio which really suits the scene. This would make a great print to hang on the wall, but I could also see it working as a jigsaw! Angela

I love the colour combinations in this image, it's great to see some colour in the sky rather than inky blackness. Your timing is also perfect, catching the person at exactly the right point in the frame compositionally, but also in terms of the light in the window. Angela

What a stunning image! Everything about this image is great and gives you something to look at, from the moon against the city skyline to the reflections in the smoothed over water and the detail in the clouds hanging in the night sky.

Cities can be colourful places at night and this image really demonstrates that. It also stands out for capturing a small intimate moment rather than a wider view. There's a lovely connection between the two closest people, they look relaxed and happy.

Colour, symmetry and texture all pull together to make this a striking image. In a crowded field, this picture really stands out due to the view it gives you into city life. Every time you visit the image you'll take away something new.

While the coloured lights are bold and eye-catching, it's the figures within the tunnel that really make the shot. The figure in the foreground helps add a sense of scale and their line of sight takes us to the two cyclists.

We saw quite a few images of the River Tyne in this contest but this one really stands out. Your use of the arc to frame the Sage works very well, really helping to centre your eye in the busy scene. You also timed your shot well so that there's still some colour in the sky and the river is smooth ensuring there are nice reflections.

I can picture this scene perfectly. The image works very well in black and white, it gives a timeless quality and really brings the metal on the steps to life. I like that you have included the station name, it helps viewers make sense of the image. Great choice of shutter speed, you've captured just the right amount of blur. Angela

Simple, by no means perfect when it comes to any of the usual photography rules, but this is an image that caught my eye. I love the colours, textures and feeling that this images captures to perfection. Some times you don't need to play by the rules. Ali

This image is full of mood and captures the moment perfectly. Its simple, tried and tested composition works, with the action of looking at the phone placing this shot in the present rather than in the past. But is the subject an actor, autograph hunter, friend or simply someone who's stopped to read a post?
