A portrait shows us who we are facing, but above all as it is seen by the photographer himself who immortalizes him in one shot.

Empathy and knowledge of the subject is needed: if we do not know who we are facing, we will hardly have a concrete image to capture.

This is one of these, well-made and captured.

Here's an example of how a natural environment can become a perfect and dreamy scenery to a stolen portrait, taken at the moment.

The waterfall frames the subject shot as in a portrait of C. D. Friedrich, where nature is the protagonist and the subject is just a spectator.

In this shot made to this child behind a stained glass it is also possible to see his daily environment reflected in the glass itself.

The serene face, the vivid eye and the cat abandoned to the embrace of the child complete the picture, in a great portrait captured on the fly by the photographer.

A close-up can emphasize the portrait we want to capture, and give charisma to the subject, whatever its activity: from a surfer or an athlete performing artist.

Capturing this kind of portraiture is not easy, and requires patience and attention, following the subject in every gesture.

This is a beautiful portrait. It reminds me of the picture made by A. Corbijn at John Lee Hooker. Hands overlook the story of a person in an unequivocal manner. They say so much about who we are in front of, and they show the whole life and experience lived, in this case, by the couple.

30 years ago U2 were publishing an album that has become legendary. The images created for this album entered the history of photography, even managing to give the name to the album itself. This contest is dedicated to Anton Corbijn and his photography; to its ability to grasp in his black and white the essential of what he observes, as well as perceives it, whether it be a landscape and even more in a portrait. For this contest try to show in your shots how you perceive the essence of the world around you, eliminating the distraction of colour.
