The word occult has its roots in the Latin occultus, meaning “hidden or secret” and today is often used to describe beliefs or practices which fall outside of mainstream religious or scientific doctrines. In this sense the occult refers to mystical, supernatural or magical powers, practices and phenomena including but not limited to ghosts, vampires, fairies, zombies, werewolves, witches and UFO’s.

In this contest I want you to show me your photos which depict any aspect of what the occult means to you. Your pictures can be frightening, funny or thought provoking but please do not submit images portraying or suggestive of explicit violence. Entries may be in colour, monochrome or selective colour and composite images are most welcome. Good luck in the contest and I am really looking forward to seeing your entries.

How it works

Every photo submitted will be available for the crowd to rate once the submissions period has ended. You can see all the images uploaded to a contest, but will need to rate them to see how they’re ranked once the rating period begins.

Some contests on Photocrowd also have a judge. After the submission period closes the judge chooses their favourite images and writes some image reviews. The crowd and judge results will be announced on the same day.
