Great contest!

Female Mallard, ! Such and Excellent image, we take these birds for granted. They are such a difficult bird to get a great picture of, and i think this nails it . Great Colours and composition, that blue on the wing stands out , so nice and sharp . good timing with the wing flap. A lot of wildlife photography is about understanding the behaviours of animals and capturing these behaviours. great stuff !

I admit I kept swapping between this and my first placed image. This is a beautiful capture of cuckoo. excellent background makes the bird pop out. everything is sharp from top to tail. including the all important eye . The tail is amazing, and makes this image stand out. Congrats on a fab image. !

This images stood out from the start, the purple heather caught my eye straight away, lovely depth of field, and shows of the kestrels wings perfectly. as always the all important eye is sharp, and excellent low level angle for eye contact. Excellent image.,!

This was a tough competition to judge. I really struggled to pick the top ten images as there were so many amazing pictures which met the brief . This image stood out to me, There is action, and an excellent capture of the wings spread out on this short ear owl is caught perfectly in a dive for its prey. The eye is nice and sharp as is the rest of the bird. a technical challenge in its own right with fast moving birds. You also get a nice sense of the habitat which adds to the image. Great Capture well done. !!!

I want to see your best pictures of winged wonders, this could be birds in flight, moths or butterflies. Any Living creature that has wings is acceptable. It doesn't need to be in flight, and can be a bee on a flower, but any photographs that show off the amazing wings of these creatures will stand out from the crowd. I will be interested to see the communities interpretation of this contest title.
