I really like the composition here, and its qualities are emphasised by presenting it in black and white. The shapes and designs within the tiling really stand out, and the bending figure adds interest. A very well-deserved second place this this elegant image.

A beautiful, dramatic image: well done. The bold colours of the tiling on the steps are perfectly captured, and the three figures, off to the lefthand side at the top and absorbed in their conversation, provide an interesting counterpoint. Very well-observed.

There is lovely capture of detail here, in the worn and lifting tiles with their shapes and their signs of wear and tear. Excellent use of monochrome and depth of field to accentuate these details and to show change and decay. Well done.

I really like this simple, striking image, it's a great take on the theme. The table looks like a giant tile, set on the patterned background of the pale floor tiles. The chairs aren't quite symmetrically placed; I think this is a good thing, it adds life and interest and prevents the whole composition from looking too stilted.

I love the richness of detail here. The eye is led around the swirling shapes, and you have captured the colours and details within the tiling really well. Obviously I can't tell what the lighting situation was like, but you've balanced colours, light and shade very well. Lovely image.

I've chosen this as the winning image: for me, you've balanced colour, light and shade exceptionally well here. The slight angle of the composition adds interest too. There is something about the essence of tiles and tiling here: rich details, brought out by the way in which the light falls on the central panel and dapples other areas of the image. I can tell from the ISO reading that you had limited light to work with. Well done!

I like this image for the choice of subject you've made. You've chosen a beautiful, simple and elegant mosaic, and have captured its details in a simple and uncluttered way. Everything stands out, in the monochrome shading of the landscape and the figures within it. Well done.

All credit to you for being brave enough not to evade or walk away from a disturbing and controversial image. Crucially, you have also given us the context in your accompanying notes; in my view this is essential, so that we understand your intention in capturing this particular image. The present of the foot, at the base of the image, adds an essential an poignant element. Well done.

Great image - well done! I love the way in which you've captured distortion to accentuate bold colours and patterns, both in the tiling and in the pipework and window. It creates the same kind of unsettling effect that you get in fairground mirrors.

I would like to see your photos of tiles, ancient or modern, hand-made or commercially produced. Tiles can be used to create decorative floors and walls; a single tile may stand out because of its beautiful colours; an expanse of tiles may be used to form a strong geometric design or a plain backdrop. Sometimes the design of a tiled surface tells us something about history and culture in a particular place. Images may be in colour or black and white, and may be taken in any location, indoors or outdoors. See where your imagination takes you.
