This shot has great potential! I love the use of the stairs to emphasise the depth of field, and the framing is quite captivating in that you can hardly tell if the stairs are going up or down. However, I feel the picture would have benefited from stronger use of light, as we’ve lost some of the more interesting details, such as the subjects at the bottom of the stairs. Brighter lights (or editing) would have accentuated these details, giving the viewer more to focus on, whilst also creating more shadow/mystery.

Congratulations on such a lovely picture! The B&W, the fog and the shadows all combine to create a beautifully chilling atmosphere. I feel the picture might have benefited from a slightly different angle, with the street lamp more central in the frame and not detracting attention from some of the other details (the amazing staircase, for example), however you’ve captured a really stunning image. Well done!

Wow! I love the use of B&W and limited light to accentuate the sharp lines and edges. It’s beautiful to look at! The reflection is also a great feature, however a slight change in the angle (perhaps with the stairs a bit closer) might have proven more effective, giving us more depth and drama. Overall, a really captivating shot. Well Done!

Congratulations on an amazing shot! The architecture is stunning, and you’ve framed it beautifully, however it’s the mood, which is created by the colours, the long reflections and the shadows, that makes this image so enjoyable. I also love the contrasting lights in the middle, which juxtapose well the darkness/gloominess of the sky.

What a superb picture! Congratulation on taking first place. It's very well deserved. Everything works very well here, and it all blends together so beautifully. The warmth of the light coming through juxtaposes really well with the coolness of the street (accentuated by the darkness and the long reflections), and leaves me longing to step inside. The walker is a great addition; who are they, where are they going? I also love that there aren’t any streets signs that would suggest a location, but that it’s quite clear where we are in the world. Very well done!

This is a stunning picture! The use of black & white works really well here, and you've conveyed so clearly the feeling of warmth inside the building. The two subjects at the window are framed perfectly, and there's no doubt that they're the focus, despite not really being in focus. They are both looking at their phones, which is intriguing and leaves the viewer wanting to find out more.

Towns and cities are often at their aesthetic and energetic best after dark when urban lights from streetlamps and shops illuminate the streets and people below. Colours can range from sombre to garish, so don’t go in expecting only low-light settings. If there’s one thing for sure about nighttime urban photography, it’s that it’s always unexpected!
