In my humble opinion - to get your shot noticed initially, it needs to have impact. This shot has impact in spades, no doubt about that. I particularly like the detail you have here, with the background nicely blurred in order for the viewer to focus on the subject matter. An unusual shot, when compared to most others entered into this competition. Well done, nicely spotted and my thanks for your entry.
There were plenty of shots entered into this competition which focussed on tree bark - something to be entirely expected - and this particular shot is one of my favourites. The colours and contrast are both superb - and I just love those brown earthy tones contrasting against the more monochrome elements of the tree bark. Very nice indeed and my thanks for your entry.
Another different take on the brief - and as I've said a few times in the past - I like different. The contrast of the green elements work really well against the white background, and which look to have been softened slightly in post-processing. Yet again, another shot which I have no doubt would have passed most of us by. A very good spot indeed, and my thanks for this entry.
It was the total simplicity of this shot which first grabbed my attention. Less is always more - and that has been demonstrated perfectly here. If I was to be just a little pernickety, there does appear to be a small degree of noise throughout the background of this shot - one of the major potential bugbears of all photographers - but I don't think that should detract from an interesting and well-observed shot. The idea is there, and that's what counts.
As always, my thanks to those who took the time to enter this competition and managed to abide by the brief in the process. Onto the winning image - what can I say? It's simple, uncluttered and appears to be an opportunistic shot...something that pays dividends if you are in the right place at the right time with that all-important eye - which I think you certainly had on this occasion. I love the simplicity, the relative lack of contrast, the warm tones, the composition....but I do wonder if it would have benefitted from having the extreme lower right hand corner cropped out, in order to make it even 'cleaner'? All this said, I love it - well done, and my congratulations on your winning image.

For this contest I want to see your photos that contain details of trees. This includes shots that focus on leaves, roots, branches and bark. So please, no shots with whole trees as the subject, just the details. Colour or black and white, the choice is yours. I very much look forward to seeing and judging your entries.
