Its that dramatic light explosion and moment that is the real winner in this image, this helps create a dramatic looking woodland scene! Love the silhouetted subject and those contrasts of light and dark, the light also makes the tree trunks pop out from the page especially the two central ones these act as a frame for the sunburst. The vertical composition of the trees are broken up beautifully by the diagonal rays of light this give another dimension to the overall image! Love the colours as well!

A very different idea with this one that single tree composition really works well and I love that stormy backdrop and atmosphere, when I first looked at this it looked like a tidal wave behind the tree but of course it is rain but that is the beauty of this image it makes you think about it so you have to look twice at it. Love that dark moody sky it matches the dark ground with the light centre band sandwiched in between this then shows off the silhouetted tree, it has movement and a myriad of moods that all come together very well indeed!

Wonderful image and location it really does have that African look and feel about it especially with those acacia trees, the central composition works, I don't think that you could have place the rising sun much better then this, lovely warm tones of silhouetted light and colour within the image also the dark top and bottom also works for me although I may have been tempted to crop some of the sky and ground away if it were mine but that's only a person choice!

Congratulations to the winner. I love the foggy moods and atmosphere that has been created in this especially with the graduated tones receding from dark to light this also makes those muted colours work better, no real shadows more of a muted silhouetted image but that what works, I am not really a fan of the off set composition but again in this case it works and it is that reason it catches the eye and makes you look around the image. You could easily use the bigger tree trunk and a frame just off centre and crop away the rest it would that way as well as a portrait format but I like it as it is .

I has seen many images of this famous place and it seems no matter how they are taken and composed they as seem to work and demands attention and with this one there is no exception. Very graphic looking image love the stark contrasts of light and colour and how those abstract and dead looking trees are all pointing upwards and breaking up the sandy looking hills, that plain blue sky is a must with no white clouds this is in keeping with the solid bands of gold hills and the white surface. The rule of thirds are well preserved and that foreground tree with its shadows and roots are well placed , a very striking image!

Another very atmospheric and moody looking image the misty appearance really suits that l late autumn style image, again that central composition works well with the two foreground tree acting as a frame or window leading you through to the vanishing distance, lovely muted colours especially the blues but the main difference with this one is those foreground branches with those golden leaves and on the ground this gives that extra interest, contrasts, and that 3D look about it!
My 7th Place Entry
Love that moody misty and some what menacing atmosphere that hangs over this image the blue tones really gives the extra quality and emphasizes all those moods.
With this one the outer trees act as a frame and forces the eye to wonder through the central path to the disappearing distance with all its graduated light and dark areas this supplies the mystery and that sense of the unknown .Also love all the twisted branches that make the canopy and adds the final touches.
My 6th Place Entry
Another very striking and graphic looking image that has to be look at, that composition is perfect with the central greens of the grass leading your eye into the distance also creating that vanishing point with all the converging lines. Love the contrasts of the white blossoms and the green grass this is also helped by the "L" shapes created by the shadows cast by the trees even the hint of blue sky is not a distraction.

This is a really beautiful looking image, the muted blue tones and colours are delightful it creates a very monochromatic appearance. Perfect composition with the tree on the bottom right hand third of the image. The highlights are superbly handled and help to emphasize all the contours on the rolling snow covered hills, these are echoed in the clouds as well and the halo effect of the light that separates the sky and hills adds the final touch to this very pleasing image!

Love the look, the feel and the moods in this it is like an oil painting and should be on a large canvas and hanging on the wall!
Love the muted light and the colours this with the misty backdrop creates that romantic looking scene, the vertical tree trunks break up the back lighting very well indeed they also gives the image that depth as they seem to disappear into the distance, the composition works as does the letterbox format, it all blends itself to a beautifully done and crafted image!
