A beautifully lit photo of something most people will never see in their lifetime, face to face with a shark. I love how this image serves as effective portraiture of their gentle and curious nature, as he cruises on by. The background is a pleasant variance of light and textures, and I really like that you can see the surface just above. The eye of your viewer is drawn right to the eye of the shark, so alien yet so familiar at the same time. It is a lovely portrait.
This is such a unique underwater photo. What a mind boggling perspective to be exploring an interior space in the zero gravity 3 dimensional environment of the deep sea. I love the light cutting through the dim water, illuminating the sharp lines of the bannister. the window in the back peering out into the endless ocean also adds to the unique perspective. Finally, I enjoy the faceless darkness of your subjects exploring the scene, I think it creates an even eerier sense of mystery and intrigue to the image.
This octopus as a subject is such a visual treat of texture, shape, motion, and intrigue. Your eye can't help but wander all over its form, so elegant and alien. I also love the smaller fish in the scene, its patterns and colors add to the overall palette of amazing details found all over the image. A darkened background was a good choice, letting the subjects speak for themselves. All around a nice shot!
I sure do love the simplicity of this image- but even in the simple lines and composition, there's much to be seen. The delicate light coming down from above, the soft sand shaped by the currents of the ocean, the light and playful cool tones contrasting with your subject, and the thorny texture of the starfish itself- all stand out to me. The composition is easy on the eyes, I love the endless expanse of sea beyond. It's a beautiful shot!
This is a unique and beautiful image. The reclamation of this vehicle by the sea is quite impressive to take in. I love all the textures and decay seen here, it is a visual treat. Your composition is also excellent, a low angle emphasizing the breadth of this vehicle, meanwhile its harsh lines and rusty metals provide a perfect foil to the soft, gentle light and beauty of the surrounding sea. Gorgeous work!
I absolutely love this close up of the tiny world that exists unseen on this massive planet. What a gorgeous little fish, I love his brilliant eye, especially how the colors match the strand of coral he is on. The soft blues and bokeh of the background also serve to offset the texture and busyness of the foreground subject, making it a very pleasant image to take in. Beautiful work.
What a unique shot! I love the gradual shift of light from light to dark, the white bubbles playing off the white fur of the bear as it cruises into darker water. I love how the first half of the image is chaotic and the second is calm. The perfect profile is also so unique, a very interesting look at this animal that you don't see too often, also at eye-contact level as well. You can certainly see how well optimized the polar bear is for life underwater. It is a lovely photo.
This image is just dynamite, absolutely lovely usage of lights and darks here, which I think is especially effective in underwater photography. All the sharp lines slicing the same direction through the image are quite pleasing to the eye. There is a softness too, the gentle curves of the remora providing contrast to the harsh lines of the shark. I love the light piercing through the water from the side illuminating the landmarks of your subjects, while the void below swallows all remaining light. It is a gorgeous shot, effective in black and white, and a stunning addition to this competition.
This is a stunning shot. I could look at it all day! The different layers in the image are very compelling, especially the soft clusters of the coral's tendrils. The subject is so perfectly posed he's almost like a paid model- I love him gentle resting his beautiful spotted claws on the coral as he peeks out from his crevice home. This is a lovely perspective of a beautiful species and so well captured, the composition, exposure, and lighting are all excellent. Fantastic work!
I so enjoy the chaos and motion in this murky image, a delightful shot and a perspective you rarely see underwater. Those incredible tusks really stick out of the photo, as well as the eye on this fierce animal. The textures of the image, the motes of dirt flying through the water, the chaotic bubbles - they all add to this incredible motion that I very much enjoy. A very charismatic portrait of this fearsome species.
I absolutely love this photo! The usage of light here simplifies the narrative so it is quite simple to take in. The size of that grouper and child are nearly the same, an incredible reminder of the diversity of life on this planet. How cool that we can share the beauty of the bottom of the sea with our children, standing mere inches away from another world. From a technical standpoint, the composition is beautiful, I love the soft lighting on the sharks and rays in the background, and the harsher dark light on your two most important characters in the image. Fantastic work.
This image is simply stunning. The billowing soft dress is such a highlight, and I love her gently illuminated hair as well. My favorite small detail is definitely the model's reflected face in the top of the image. The composition is also quite nice, her figure cuts through the image, leading your eye across the form of the subject and all the splendid shape and color. A lovely photo, love the usage of light here and separation of subject and background.

Underwater photography is most commonly associated with images of the natural world - the aquatic landscapes and wildlife that inhabit our lakes, seas and oceans. But images taken underwater can also span the genres of portraiture, fashion, documentary and still life, where a novel effect can be achieved if you’ve got the kit that can handle it.
I love how my eye follows the twisting curls of the coral to the prize- a little marine shrimp perfectly camouflaged and tucked away in its safe little world. This is a great shot of the minuscule life that exists in the great expanse of the ocean- I particularly love images that share the unseen bits of that vast ecosystem with us. This is a beautiful shot.
The choice of a slow shutter here brings a dynamic edge to the shot. The chaos of the pelagic sea, a whirlwind of activity, contrasting greatly with the people standing mere inches away behind acrylic. It is a fascinating juncture of our world and theirs. How amazing that we can capture a moment like this. Great work.
