Not all Urban Exploration images need feature run down buildings and decaying beauty. By definition the theme could include any shot which takes the viewer on a tour of an urban location, finding beauty in unlikely subjects. The symmetry of this image and the contrast of moving and static elements creates a dynamic and exciting shot which demands multiple viewings. Congratulations!
The light present in this shot is the element which instantly captured our attention. The soft golden glow gives this potentially grim scene a feeling of tranquility, proving that beauty can be found in almost any subject, if the photographer knows how to find it. Rather than giving us a sense of unease, the tight composition allows us to focus on the process of human-made structures becoming at one with nature.
Depth, leading lines, colour contrast and texture all play a role in the success of this shot. The yellow-ish path contrasts nicely with the cooler tones of the arches, the shape of which juxtaposes the angular lines at the bottom of the frame. The perspective gives us the sense of this passage stretching on forever and draws us into the composition. Well spotted and carefully captured.

There are so many photo opportunities to be found in the urban environment. We're asking you to submit your best shots taken when exploring towns and cities, which could include architecture, abandoned buildings, or even abstract shapes and patterns.
One of the challenges of Urban Exploration photography is that the common scenes on which we focus are often full of detail. This can create very busy compositions, which lack a true point of interest. This shot effectively shows the decay of the buildings, but there is no identifiable subject. Well spotted, but in need of a little refinement of the composition.
